Prize draw extended until the end of September25 July 2008 To complement the publication date of the next edition of the Alumni Magazine the deadline for the prize draw has been extended until the end of September to allow all alumni the opportunity to take part.
Alumni receive honorary titles at Graduation ceremony23 July 2008 The outstanding achievements of five Loughborough University Alumni were recognised at this year's Graduation ceremonies. Fawaz AlHokair, Gerald Davies, Peter Haslehurst, Ian Storey and George Gandy were all recipients of Honorary doctorates at this year's event which took place between the 17th and 22nd of July. Fawaz AlHokair (Economics, 1989) became an honorary doctor of the University in recognition of his outstanding leadership in the field of international retail business. Gerald Davies (Phys Ed and Sports Science, 1966) was made an Honorary Doctor of Letters for his outstanding contribution to rugby. Peter Haslehurst (Mechanical Engineering, 1963) became an Honorary Doctor of Science for his outstanding contribution to the chemicals industry and dedication and commitment to the financial governance of Loughborough University Ian Storey (Design and Technology, 1980) was made an Honorary doctor of Letters for his outstanding contribution to opera. And finally, George Gandy (Human Sciences, 1975), Loughborough alumnus and the University’s Director of Athletics was made an Honorary Doctor of the University for his outstanding contribution to athletics at Loughborough. Sports Technology Institute Launch Innovation Awards22 July 2008 Loughborough University Sport Technology Institute have launched a competion to encourage entrepeneurs to create innovative sports technology to be used in elite sport. University welcomes kids on campus this summer09 July 2008 Loughborough University’s popular summer sports camps get underway this month providing children with a range of exciting great value activities during the school holidays. Children aged from five to 14 are able to access up to four weeks of activity through the University’s multi-sport camps, as well as sport-specific training at five week-long football, rugby and cricket camps. Loughborough Sports Scholars invited onto British Olympic Programme07 July 2008 Three Loughborough University sports scholars are to be given a invaluable insight into the Olympic Games in Beijing as part of Britain’s Olympic Ambition 2012 programme. Swimmer Daniel Fogg, hockey player Adam Harper and slalom canoeist Elizabeth Neave are amongst the country’s most promising young athletes invited onto the British Olympic Association (BOA) programme.
